Sofwave Skin Tightening

Sofwave is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive facial treatment of fine lines and wrinkles using SUPERB™ Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam Technology to firm & lift sagging skin.

The fractional heating effect created by Sofwave’s unique ultrasound delivery stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin which leads to the reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

Dr. Sarah Sawyer, the founder & medical director of Dermatology & Laser of Alabama, researched this technology for months before bringing it to Alabama.

Dr. Sawyer is the first dermatologist in the Birmingham area to offer this procedure!

As we age, collagen and elastin production begins to decline, causing the skin to develop laxity, or become loose. Sofwave is a new, non-invasive approach to skin tightening that can stimulate the production of collagen.

The Sofwave skin tightening system uses ultrasound technology to reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles while tightening and lifting lax skin in the eyebrow, submental (beneath the chin), and neck areas.

Thanks to Sofwave’s ability to stimulate your body’s production of collagen & elastin, patients could achieve the following results:

  • Tighter, lifted appearance, especially in areas that have started to droop or sag
  • Toned & firmer skin with a youthful bounce and increased elasticity

Is Sofwave Skin Tightening Right for Me?

Sofwave is an ultrasound treatment for men and women who are looking for skin tightening of the face and neck. The device is non-invasive and is safe to use on all skin tones & types, including darker skin.

Sofwave is well-suited for patients who are in their 20s to 70s, have mild skin laxity of the face, and have loose skin under their neck and chin. We also recommend this treatment for those looking for a lifted brow.

How does SofWave work?

During the treatment, the provider will move the Sofwave handheld device over the treatment area as the handpiece directs the laser energy through the epidermis (the top layer of your skin) to heat the mid-dermal tissue. This heated tissue helps increase collagen & elastin production, which are responsible for the strength & elasticity of the skin.

Patients have reported feeling heat and slight discomfort during the actual treatment. However, once the treatment is complete, these sensations should quickly resolve.

Dr. Sawyer also offers Pro-Nox for additional comfort. Pro-Nox is a natural blend of 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous analgesia, self-administered by the patient through a safe, valve inhalation system for pain & anxiety relief.

How is Sofwave different from other treatments?

There are no needles or ablative lasers used with Sofwave, so the recovery is usually limited to mild redness or swelling.  The procedure often offers a noticeable improvement in just a single session without any downtime!

Sofwave Questions & Answers

A: The majority of patients will only need one treatment for their best results, while others will benefit from an additional treatment.

The number of treatments will depend on how much skin laxity you have and how you respond to the Sofwave treatment.

A: Sofwave treatments are considered very safe. The device has the ability to accurately measure and control skin temperature, and comes with a cooling mechanism that protects the uppermost skin layer from overheating.

A: A typical SofWave treatment may take 45-6o minutes.

One of the many benefits of Sofwave skin tightening is that there is minimal — if any — downtime!

While the skin may be pink or tender, patients may be able to immediately return to their normal activities & usual skincare regimen. This means that you can tighten your skin without interrupting your busy schedule.

A: Results may be seen as soon as one week following treatment. The collagen regeneration process, however, can take up to 12 weeks to produce visible results. This means patients may consistently see improvements during the 3-month period after the treatment.

As more collagen and elastin are produced over the following months, your wrinkles and fine lines will be smoothed out and lax skin tightened. These improvements will only become more noticeable over time.

A: Both Sofwave and Ultherapy use ultrasound energy to penetrate into the lower dermal tissue and boost collagen production. Ultherapy tends to be more uncomfortable and can have some recovery time. Sofwave is a gentler procedure overall that can still achieve very natural, noticeable improvement.
