Microneedling is a wonderful treatment for lines, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks and textural irregularities. The micropen creates tiny micro-injuries via fine, surgical quality needles that cause the skin to go into “hyperdrive” to repair itself by stimulating collagen & elastin production.
There are three phases to the wound-repair process:
- Phase I: Inflammation. Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.
- Phase II: Proliferation. The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
- Phase III: Remodeling. The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.
Some areas are more sensitive than others, but numbing is applied all over the treatment area to eliminate discomfort. Your skin may feel like you have a sunburn immediately after treatment. We will often recommend take-home products to help with redness & repair.
During the few months following treatment, the treated area will appear to have a more even complexion and texture. The production of collagen and elastin can continue up to 6 months which leads to newer, healthier skin. Repeating this process combined with a healthy skincare regimen can dramatically improve the appearance and health of your skin.
